A silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/8 inches (3.49 cm) in height overall consisting of a pair of silver color metal dividers expanded, surmounted by a black unicorn's head erased charged with a silver terrestrial globe, all within a two segmented silver scroll inscribed "OUR JOB SITE" on the dexter segment, and "-THE WORLD" on the sinister segment in red letters. The insignia is to be worn in pairs.
Scarlet and white (silver) are the colors used for the Corps of Engineers. The unicorn's head, symbolic of courage and daring, alludes to the unit's service in World War II and Korea. The globe and dividers are representative of the worldwide engineering aspects and basic mission of the Battalion.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 27 September 1968.
